Know How To Enjoy Life

So you’re a Cassanova, a real Lothario. The ladies man.  Or maybe you’re a woman who knows you deserve more than you have—and you know how to get what you want.  You’ve got the looks, the charm, and the brains to attract and seduce the potential mates you really want.  There’s just one problem: you’re already spoken for.

Many searchers begin “the hunt” anew when they aren’t receiving what they need at home.  For some, that may lead to searching for more intimacy (yes, sex), maybe some peace and quiet, perhaps a less controlling partner, or even a mate that respects your independence.

And while you are looking around, you are trying to do your best to be mindful of the fact that you don’t want your current partner to find out.   Slip-ups are easy, though—especially when you’re trying to keep track of multiple important or budding relationships.

I’ve taken the time to write down a few very basic rules you absolutely must follow if you are to be stealthy and enjoy success.  Remember, you have the most to lose if you forget to follow these three simple guidelines:

1) Track And Cover Your Cell Phone Use + Avoid Recorded Messages

Delete all text messages from the new people you are seeing—that means incoming, outgoing, and drafts.  Don’t give your current partner or other friends opportunities to discover a message that would reveal your actions.  You need to be sly, because suspicions will be raised if you hide your phone or otherwise make it obvious that you don’t want anyone near your phone.  Of course, the same rule applies for incoming and outgoing calls, as well as voice messages or whatever else you may receive on your phone.

Don’t program the real names of the other people you are dating into your phone; instead, use fake names in your phone and just remember the real names corresponding with those aliases.  This way, if someone viewing your phone does see an incoming message from a disguised name, you might look guilty, but the people you are seeing will be protected from harassment.

Your mind may be elsewhere while you’re having fun, which makes it likelier that you will forget to wipe all of your tracks.  If you want to be absolutely sure that your current partner cannot find what you’ve been up by checking your phone, then get a second, prepaid phone.  Buy the phone with cash if you can, and use cash when you need to add minutes.  With a secret phone, you only have to worry about hiding the prepaid phone—something you are more likely to remember since it is totally out of the ordinary and an obvious visual reminder.

T-Mobile is my choice for prepaid phones, as you only need to add minutes once every 90 days.  Most other cellular providers require you to add minutes every 30 days, or else you lose the minutes you have (and money you’ve spent).

So, to recap: written words, voice recordings, and pictures all endanger your cover.  If you will be exchanging emails with someone behind the back of your current partner(s), think of opening an anonymous email address registered with a site like Yahoo or Gmail.  Don’t ever check these emails on a computer your current partner has access to.

2) The Six-Degree Rule

Ever hear of the game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?”  The premise is that any actor can be connected to Kevin Bacon through their film roles in six or fewer steps.  This rule applies to your social life, as well (and I’m not talking about your connections to Kevin Bacon).  You need to make connections between your current partner and your potentials: Jen knows Mike, Mike’s best friend is Casey, Casey keeps in touch with Emma.  If Jen tells Mike, Mike tells Casey, and Casey talks to Emma, Jen is going to find out I’ve been frolicking with Casey!

In this day of hyper-connectivity, just assume that your potential partner(s) and current partner, even if separated by oceans, are just two, three, or four steps from knowing of each other.  Don’t give these in-between links opportunities to reveal your whereabouts or plans. Try to keep all pictures private, if possible.  And if you don’t want other people gossiping, don’t brag about what you’re up to.

3) Remain Ordinary

Do the ordinary things you normally do.  Suspicions will be raised if your current partner sees you going the extra-mile when grooming, dressing, whatever.  If you’re going out looking like a movie star without him/her (and that’s not your M.O.), you better believe they will be suspicious (unless you’re an amazing sweet-talker or they are totally oblivious).

On a similar note, don’t start buying or wearing a lot of new clothing if that’s not something you do often.  The same applies to the wearing of colognes or perfumes.

If your current partner does call you while you are out, don’t put off answering the phone or calling them back if you normally do so quickly.

Remember that cash is hard to trace.  So when you go out, pay with cash.  This way, restaurant bills or bar tabs aren’t ever visible on your monthly bills or bank statements.  Take cash out of your account at an ATM close to home—one you might normally use—as the address of the ATM shows up on bank statements.  And when you do make a cash withdrawal, get enough cash to last a week or two so that you aren’t making repeated ATM trips.

Watch the mileage on your car’s odometer.  Try to get a ride with your newest conquest rather than running your car on another half tank of gas.  Your partner could easily keep track of the mileage you’re racking up on your car, or the amount of gas you are burning through.
